Q&A WITH CANDRA
Candra has been at Visual F/X Salon since March 2008. Since she joined the team of stylists here she married her wonderful husband, Sam, and recently found out they are expecting their first child.
Q. When did you decide to have a career as a stylist?
A. In high school I wanted to do hair. I cut all my friends hair, they’d come over and I’d do their hair in my kitchen. But then I got into childcare, like teaching kindergarten, working as a swim teacher, and as an assistant director for 6 years. Sam and I decided to find a new field with more flexible hours for when we had a family. He asked me what I always wanted to do and I said I always wanted to do hair.
Q. What’s the weirdest craving you’ve had while pregnant?
A. One day I sat down and had some cheese then I really wanted a spoonful of peanut butter.
Q. How has your life changed since you started working at Visual F/X Salon?
A. I’ve gotten married and become pregnant since I started working here. Those are some pretty massive changes.
Q. Do you have any reoccurring dreams?
A. I always have dreams of being chased
Q. How do you think you stand out as a stylist?
A. I’m friendly, get along with everybody and I truly care about my clients. I think most of the stylists here do, too.

Q&A WITH INNA
You’ve read our many posts about our amazing estitition, Inna Sasin, and now it’s time to meet her. Heads up: We’ll be posting a new back-to-school facial special tomorrow on the blog. Make sure you check it out… I promise it will be a special you want to know about.
Q. When did you receive your first facial?
A. When I was fourteen. It was in Estonia. It was more like an hour of extractions. No massage or pleasure or anything. I had a red face afterwards.
Q. What do you miss most about Estonia?
A. Browsing through the old town, and my friends.
Q. What’s your favorite activity to do with your family?
A. Getting together and eating food; spending time together.
Q. How much time do you spend on your skin everyday?
A. Less than ten minutes. It doesn’t have to be long.
Q. What’s the best meal you’ve ever eaten?
A. It was at Fenouil, for my 40th birthday. I had a few appetizers and then scallops and mashed potatoes and some greens.
Q&A WITH NICOLE
It’s almost the big 0-5 for Nicole at Visual F/X Salon! (She started here 8/23/04). Take a few moments to get to know one of our sweetest, most bubbly and– above all–talented stylists.
Q.What’s your first memory of wanting to be a hair stylist?
A.Coming home from school and sitting in my mom’s salon and watching her doing hair and talking to the clients. This was from early childhood on.
Q. What’s your ideal night out in Portland?
A. Getting ready at the salon with the ladies, then meeting up with a big group of friends and barhopping down 21st street. And Mikey paying for everything.
Q. What’s your worst beauty school moment?
A. Where do I begin? It’s a cross between having to give pedicures in a Rubbermaid bucket and not being able to shampoo the homeless clients’ hair before cutting it. I didn’t mind giving back to the community; I just need some clean hair to work with. I’m sure they would have appreciated it too.
Q. What do you like to do on your Monday’s off?
A. Get all my housework done, workout and go lay by the pool.
Q. It’s almost your five-year anniversary at Visual F/X Salon. What comes to mind when thinking back over that time?
A. How fast it’s flown by, how much fun it’s been, and that it doesn’t even seem like work. I’ve met some of my best friends here.
