HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
We want to let all of our patrons know how thankful we are for you! We appreciate you choosing us to be a part of your lives and showing your support for our craft by continuing to return to Visual F/X Salon.
We are dedicated to continuing our education and searching for new ways to make your experiences here even better. We always encourage feedback from our clients, be it positive or negative, to help us continue to improve our services.
In the spirit of this post, we want to remind everybody of our TOY DRIVE. We are encouraging all salon patrons to make the difference in a child’s holiday season this year by donating a toy or book to our toy drive. All of the toys and books collected with be turned over to the Portland area Toy N Joy drive.
If you’re looking to show your appreciation for your friends, family or co-workers, a gift certificate is a great way to do so. We offer gift certificates, wrapped in elegant gift envelopes, for all of our services; including hair, nail, facials, waxing and massage. Give a cash value amount, or provide the cost of a specific service. Come in to pick one up anytime, or give us a call ahead of time and we’ll have it ready for next appointment. (503) 228-2002.

DONATE TO OUR TOY DRIVE
With Thanksgiving less than a week away, we can be assured that the holiday season is beginning. While there’s a lot to plan… relatives visiting, meals to cook, presents to wrap and appointments to make, it’s important to remember to think of others as well. This is why we at Visual F/X Salon are sponsoring a toy drive this season!
With the economy in its current state, more and more children are going without holiday gifts. We are encouraging all salon patrons to make the difference in a child’s holiday season this year by donating a toy or book to our toy drive.
For all of our blog, Twitter and Forkfly followers we are offering a reward for your generosity. When you bring a toy or book to donate at your appointment, we will reward you with either $10 off your color treatment or facial, or $5 off your haircut. Just mention this blog entry.

SHELVING UNIT FOR SALE
Salon owner, Jamie D., is back from her Bumble & Bumble class in New York! She and stylist Alison went for a weeklong class to learn tips from the ultimate professionals in the field of management and color education. They had a blast, learned a TON and even had some celebrity sightings around town. (Is John form John & Kate Plus 8 a celebrity, though?)
Well, now that they’re back we are making some fresh and exciting changes to the salon! Day one included reorganizing our product shelves. It looks wonderful, but the house cleaning doesn’t stop at that. We are actually selling one of our shelving units. Check it out and let us know if you, or anybody you know, are interested!
Clean, undamaged 6′8″ tall and 2′6″ wide glass shelving unit. Six shelves, each with 11″ between units. No damages beyond minor scratches from normal use. Has KMS California label at top of shelf, but is easy to cover up and can hold anything! Shelving units come out easily. Retailed at $500 originally, but we are asking $200, or best offer. We will throw in a free haircut if you pay the asking price in cash!
STYLING TIPS: THE BLOW DRY

You do it everyday. sometimes it works and other days you should have worn a hat. Yup, we’re talking about doing your own hair. It rarely turns out as perfect as when your stylist does it, but with all the holidays coming up we figured you could use some helpful tips from the pros. Today we will learn about the blow dry.
After washing, conditioning and adding product to your hair begin to dry it slowly on a low heat. Dry partially (up to 90%) before clipping it up into at least four sections around your head, depending on the length and thickness of your hair. Basically we’re approaching your hair with the divide and conquer technique. Using a large round brush, dry your hair in smaller sections within your already clipped sections. Use a blow dryer with a nozzle attachment, and make sure to hold the dryer pointed at a 90-degree angle with the floor. It you want your hair curled in at the tips carefully rotate the brush inward at the ends. When you’re done add hairspray, glossing or shine mist to create a lasting, polished look.

NEW OPI HOLIDAY GIFTS/COLORS
We have new products in at Visual F/X Salon. The holidays are right around the corner (Yes it’s already November, we can’t believe it either), and the gift packs and stocking stuffers are rolling in.
OPI’s new holiday colors are in and include a lovely array of crimsons, maroons and glitter! Of course they come with equally adorable names, such as “Glove You So Much!,” “Smitten with Mittens,” and “Meet & Jingle.” Come in and get your nails brightened up with this holiday cheer collection, or pick one up for a gift.
We also received a mini sleek manicure kit. A mini mani scissor, nail clipper, nail file and tweezers are all wrapped up in an adorable off-white mock croc holder. Small enough to fit in your purse, gym bag or snuggle it perfectly in a stocking for a holiday surprise.
